Who is the course aimed at?     

This course is for those studying in preparation for employment in the Information and Communication Technology sector particularly in job roles where they will be expected to use ICT skills and liaise with users. If you are interested in careers surrounding web creating/hosting, computer games design, computer systems and ICT management then this course is for you! The qualification is also suitable for those wishing to progress to university to continue with their studies.

The Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in ICT is equivalent to one A Level.

What will you learn?     

This course has been developed to meet the changing needs of the sector. It has been designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector.

Following the Application Developer Pathway, the course content focuses on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today's universities and employers demand.

The units studied are:

• Application Design                                                                                                          You will explore potential ideas for a new application and develop the design for it.

• Web Design and Prototyping                                                                                          You will research, design and produce an interactive responsive website that is specific a client’s needs.

• Fundamentals in IT                                                                                                Information learnt in this unit will create a sold foundation in the fundamentals of hardware, networks, software, ethic use and how businesses use IT.

• Global Information                                                                                                          This unit will demonstrate the uses of information in the public domain, globally, in the cloud and across the internet, by individuals and organisations.

One additional unit is also studied.

How will you be assessed?         

Assessment on the Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in ICT is made up of 60% coursework (internal) and 40% exam based (external). This is broken down as follows across the units studied:

• Application Design - Internal assessment
• Web Design and Prototyping - Internal assessment
• Fundamentals in IT - External assessment  Global Information - External assessment One additional unit is also studied

Internal assessment is work set and marked by us in the form of coursework and assignments. External assessment involves written exams including case studies. These are set and marked externally by the exam board.

How will you learn?       

Teaching and learning follows a consistent approach to develop student knowledge, skill and understanding.

There is a natural progression through the grading criteria from Pass through to Merit and Distinction, reflecting current sector practice.

As a general guide, the externally examined units in this qualification are likely to require approximately 90 guided learning hours and additional homework. Internally assessed units require approximately 60 guided learning hours.

ICT facilities are available to utilise outside of lessons.
